With a population of approximately 2.6 Million, Hanoi is the capital city and the second largest urban metropolis in Vietnam. Founded by the Emperor Ly Thai To, it has a long and colorful history dating all the way back to the 1st century AD.  It was the capital of French Indochina during the colonial era before becoming the seat of government and administrative center of modern day Vietnam.

With its tree-fringed boulevards, more than two dozen lakes and thousands of French colonial-era buildings, the city is sometimes dubbed the Paris of the East and is a popular tourist destination in Asia
