Dr. Joel Vallejo Araya is an Assistant Professor at the Mindanao State University in Marawi City, Philippines. He teaches at the English Department at the College of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Department of Graduate Studies. He is a PRC licensed teacher with 20 years of teaching experience. He obtained his PhD in Educational Management at the Capitol University (Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines). Currently, he is enrolled in PhD in Language Studies at MSU Marawi.Dr. Araya earned the degree of MA in Education major in English Language Teaching at St. Michael’s College (Iligan City, Philippines) and AB English at MSU IIT (Iligan City, Philippines). Further, he holds licensure to teach from the Philippine Regulatory Commission.

In 2016, he presented his research studies in the Interdisciplinary Circle of Science, Arts, and Innovation conferences in Bangkok, Thailand and Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. His classroom-based action researches entitled Scaffolding Writing Competence through Process Writing and Error Correction and Confusables in the Essays of Student Writers have been published in previous ICSAI conference proceedings. Recently, ICSAI appointed him as reviewer and international academic committee member with the position of associate editor. In addition, he is a member of the MSU Language Research Team in partnership with the Summer Institute of Linguistics and a research grantee of the Commission of Higher Education – Philippines. His research on Alternative Education for Child Laborers was awarded Best Paper during the Capitol University Research Congress in 2007.

As a faculty Unionist, he holds the position of Public Information Officer. He is a seasoned seminar organizer and trainer. Previously, he was designated as Special Assistant to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Coordinator of the MSU Language Center.
